From a chance meeting in Poland to becoming Kerala's favorite kebab destination — discover the journey behind our passion for authentic kebabs.
Two individuals from Kerala, pursuing their higher studies in Poland, crossed paths in an unexpected way. Little did they know that this chance encounter would lead to something much bigger.
As foreign students in Poland, they relied heavily on doner kebabs — affordable, filling, and available almost everywhere. The deep-rooted love for kebabs in Europe traces back to Turkish immigrants who introduced the dish after World War II.
After completing their studies, one friend returned to Poland and started an Indian restaurant in Ostróda. Despite its failure, this setback became a turning point.
With no other options during the pandemic, he found himself working at a kebab shop owned by an Afghan with German citizenship. It was during those long hours behind the counter that the idea for Polski Kebab began to take shape.
The search for a new business led him back to his old friend — the one who had always been fascinated by the doner kebabs they enjoyed together in Poland. This wasn't just about business; it was about bringing a piece of Poland back home.
What started as a dream in Poland eventually turned into Polski Kebab, which first opened in Calicut, Kerala. Launching during a pandemic was challenging, with restrictions limiting them to takeaway service only.
Against all odds, Polski Kebab pushed through, slowly but steadily winning the hearts of Calicut's food lovers. Today, 70-80% of Polski Kebab's customers are repeat customers — a testament to its growing popularity.
After graduating from the University of Warsaw with degrees in Law and International Relations, Shibin's journey took an unexpected turn. Following a brief venture into the restaurant business with an Indian restaurant in Ostróda, he found himself honing his skills at a kebab shop during the pandemic.
With over five years of experience living in Poland and learning the art of kebab-making firsthand, Shibin returned to Kerala with a clear vision: to introduce authentic Polish-style doner kebabs to his home state.
His hands-on experience and unwavering dedication to quality have been instrumental in developing Polski Kebab's authentic recipes and mastering the traditional techniques.
Meeting Shibin during their student days in Poland, Zainul developed a shared appreciation for the local kebab culture. While pursuing his studies in Business Administration, he discovered the unique flavors and techniques that made Polish doner kebabs so special.
After returning to Kerala, Zainul maintained his passion for the European kebab tradition. When his old friend Shibin approached him with the idea of bringing authentic Polish kebabs to India, he immediately recognized the unique potential of the venture.
His sharp business acumen and strategic vision have been crucial in transforming Polski Kebab from a single promising location in Calicut into a growing, beloved brand with multiple outlets across Kerala.
"What started as a simple craving for doner kebabs on the streets of Poland has now transformed into a brand that is ready to take on the world."
For the past three years, Polski Kebab has been serving Kerala's two most vibrant cities — Calicut and Cochin. Now, as we step into our fourth year, we're gearing up for bigger things.
By 2025, Polski Kebab will open its doors in the Middle East, marking the beginning of our international expansion.
